Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side have the qualities to win the Premier League title this year after seeing them beat West Ham on Saturday.

Despite having Thomas Vermaelen sent off, the Gunners beat the Hammers 2-0 to go top of the table by a point.

"We have a good chance to do it this year," admitted Wenger.

"We want to win the trophy because we are all conscious we have won nothing yet. The hunger, the talent and I think the nerves are there."

Arsenal were forced to dig deep to overcome the Hammers in Saturday's evening kick-off at the Emirates after seeing Vermaelen dismissed in the 44th minute. Referee Martin Atkinson deemed the defender to have been the last man after he pulled down Guillermo Franco in the box. However, Gunners goalkeeper Manuel Almunia saved Alessandro Diamanti's resultant penalty to preserve the lead given to the home side by midfielder Denilson in the fifth minute.

Captain Cesc Fabregas, back in the side following an injury lay-off, sealed the win from the same spot following a handball by Hammers centre-back Matthew Upson nine minutes from the end.

Arsene's comments after the win at Hull...

"It's maybe not good for my heart, but for the championship it's not. We have eight games to go, we are in there, why should we not believe?

"What I believe especially is that we will give absolutely everything to do it. You saw that in the game today. We were a bit jaded but we kept going. We needed the three points and we got it after the 90 minutes."

"Vennegoor of Hesselink played him in an intelligent way. Sol had no other option than to touch him but there was no intention, it was accidental. And he was offside at the start."

Arsene's post-Porto comments....

"It shows you how football can change very quickly. Nicklas had not lost the confidence, it remains relatively stable. He came back with good focus and the same belief - that is one of his strengths as well."

"The statistics and history were against us, but that just shows those do not mean a lot if you have a team on the pitch who believes they can win the game.

"We played fluent football with a positive start and the early goals gave us the belief we needed. We suffered a bit when we did not control the game at the start of the second half when we were not focused enough.

"Overall, though, we were good to watch and won with style."

"What Nasri has shown in the game, he has shown in training and I have expected that to come out. He has talent and now he starts to be efficient - great players can assist and score goals, he is starting to do that now."

"We do not choose Manchester United or Chelsea. If I say we absolutely do not want to play an English team, we put ourselves in an inferior position at the start. Maybe it is a good opportunity, if we get them, to show we can do well.

"I do not want to say absolutely no English team. If I have a choice, I would say yes, but I do not have a choice. If we get them, we cannot do worse than we did in the championship - we can only do better.

"We will take the draw we get and also we do not have to make a negative obsession of not playing against Chelsea or Manchester United. We are happy to be in the last eight - it is never easy to be in the top eight in Europe.

"The negative side is you only have good teams now - Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, so it will be difficult. At the beginning of the season, nobody expected this team to be where we are, but we showed we have mental strength, we have good desire and good quality.

"I believe it is more important on our side to continue to improve - there are still some weak moments in the game we can deal better with, so before we talk about Barcelona or Manchester United it is important we continue to improve, then we have a chance."

Arsene's post-Burnley comments....

"Theo Walcott gave you the great response you waited for. He does what a player has to do - not talk in the newspapers and let your performance talk on the pitch.

"He didn't answer any critics other than with a good performance today and that's what you want from a player. That shows he is mentally strong. I was quite sure he would respond with a good performance but you never know, it affects you when you get criticised. The way he answered that at his age is remarkable."

"Fabregas has a hamstring problem and how big the damage is we don't know yet because it's too early. We have to make a late decision over whether he plays on Tuesday, certainly. It is the same hamstring he hurt earlier in the season."

"It could have been four, five or six but as well they had a chance to make it 2-2 after a corner. In the end you are happy when you miss the chances we missed today, but you get the three points."

"I believe on the surface he looks like 'okay, I missed the chances', but underneath he is really disappointed. In his finishing, Bendtner missed chance after chance, but if you are a striker, it is like that. You think 'I missed the first one, but I will score the next one'.

"Once you have missed the second one, you are in trouble because after you do not know how to take the third one - do I really go for it, or wait for the ball? That is what happened to him today."

Arsene post-Stoke...

"I'm proud of our game because it was an unbelievable battle from the first minute. We needed to be tough and resilient to win. I'm very proud and of course very sad because of what happened. We know it's a bad injury. We have to transfer him to London tonight to see if he needs emergency surgery.

"We don't know how long he will be out but it's certainly long term.

"I'm not very happy with the tackle. We know what we are expecting, a battle everywhere, but we have now lost three players on horrendous tackles and I refuse to believe it's always coincidence.

"I don't believe it when you are hit as many times as we are. I just believe in what I see and when you see a player getting injured like that it's not acceptable. Commitment is right, but that is not right. All the questions I get in press conferences about we don't fancy the physical side of it, that's the result."

"We could see the team was shocked but this team is very strong mentally and we will do it for Ramsey as well because he deserves it."
